You can start before you feel ready
It’s common to have questions about the equipment, the movements, or whether you’ll be able to keep up. Bring those questions. Your starting point helps shape the conversation.
You might want to get stronger, work on body composition, or simply make exercise part of your week again. You do not have to want the same things as the person training beside you.
Strength is something you can practice
Learning an exercise takes practice. Start with a manageable challenge, become familiar with the movement, and progress as your ability develops. A useful plan gives you a reason for the work you’re doing.
Our strength-training page explains the basics. If building muscle is your main goal, explore muscle building and bodybuilding.
Give consistency a place in your calendar
Look at the times you can realistically protect for yourself. Consider what has interrupted your routine in the past and what support would help this time.
Accountability is most useful when expectations are clear. Ask about the coaching format, how progress is reviewed, and what support is available between sessions.
Keep the goal personal
You don’t need a particular look to belong in a gym. Choose a goal that matters to you, whether that means lifting more confidently, developing muscle, or working toward fat loss with manageable habits.
For pregnancy, a recent birth, injury, or a medical condition, discuss exercise with your healthcare professional and tell us about relevant restrictions before training.
